Description
About the Artist:
The photographer, Celine Jill, was based in London and she treated London as her second home. She was curious how quiet the busy Central London could be, then she created a 36-shot project on a roll of ILFORD HP5 film during the first lockdown in London 2020, the day before she got on the flight back to home city Hong Kong. She is currently based in Hong Kong.
About the Artwork:
“STAY HOME. SAVE LIVES.” was the highest priority of the UK during the first lockdown in 2020, where the world was full of doubts, fear about the pandemic and future of our planet earth.
All 36 unique artworks are from the same roll of black of white film, jogging from the China Town to the Piccadilly Circus, the places where using filled with the crowd. Black and White is her way of documenting the historical moment of the century. Focusing on the composition from real life and the lights and shadows.
During the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, people do lockdown, quarantine, work-from-home.
Imagine a pair of working parents, a kindergarten kid and the grandma who used to taking care of the kid in day time, all stuck in a tiny flat. It is never easy; Imagine a pilot who spent over 180 days out of a year for quarantine, just because of his job nature. It is never easy; Imagine an oversea student got stuck abroad for more than a year, she could only zoom her parents from million miles away. It is never easy.
There must be a lot to handle, on emotions. The photographer, Celine Jill, understands how difficult the time could be. She believes The Samaritan Befrienders Hong Kong (香港撒瑪利亞防止自殺會) are supporting people not only affected by the COVID-19 and far more than that.
